NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. (AP) — A woman is in stable condition after being shot by an off-duty Las Vegas police officer after she entered the officer's North Las Vegas home late Friday night. The Las Vegas Sun reports that the officer and her husband were sleeping when they were awakened by the female relative returning home unexpectedly.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Las Vegas firefighters say ashes from a backyard fire pit started a fire at a neighboring home early Saturday. Las Vegas fire spokesman Tim Szymanski says firefighters put out the fire within minutes. The fire caused $10,000 damage to the home's exterior.
CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — A panel of water experts that spent almost a year analyzing Nevada's drought is recommending expanded conservation efforts, stronger enforcement, and better educating lawmakers and the public about drought. The eight-member Nevada Drought Forum included water, agriculture, climate and emergency management officials who gathered information in a series of public meetings statewide.
BOISE, Idaho (AP) — United States Geological Survey research ecologist Matt Germino says winter precipitation falling as rain rather than snow means perennial native plants have less water to store for summer use. Certified animal nutritionist Marty Gill says he's seen an increase in Great Basin ranchers pulling cattle off rangeland due to poor forage.
