BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Inmates in southwestern Idaho are now corresponding with family members and friends electronically via the jail's new tablets. The Idaho Statesman reports the Canyon County Jail has about three dozen tablets for inmates to check out. Inmates are charged 5 cents per minute to send text messages to those outside the jail. They can also play games and view approved news, sports and weather websites.

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — United States Geological Survey research ecologist Matt Germino says winter precipitation falling as rain rather than snow means perennial native plants have less water to store for summer use. Certified animal nutritionist Marty Gill says he's seen an increase in Great Basin ranchers pulling cattle off rangeland due to poor forage.

HOMEDALE, Idaho (AP) — One person was taken to a Boise-area hospital following an officer-involved shooting in Homedale on Saturday. Owhyee County Sheriff Perry Grant tells KBOI-TV that someone answered the door with a firearm, shots were fired and that person was taken to a Boise area hospital.

SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — The Nez Perce County sheriff's office says an intoxicated man fell off cliff after driving off a road and going for help. KXLY-TV reports the man called police for help late Saturday after he fell. Deputies found the intoxicated 22-year-old man after a 20 minute search of the area and took him to a hospital.
