LAS VEGAS (AP) — Now that the presents have been unwrapped, a Christmas tree recycling drive is beginning in Las Vegas.
The University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and the Springs Preserve are heading a program that'll accept trees through Jan. 15 at more than 30 drop-off locations in and around Las Vegas.
Sites include many local parks and neighborhood Lowe's stores.
UNLV Rebel Recycling director Tara Pike-Nordstrom says more than 175,000 trees have been reduced to mulch for landscaping and dust control since the program started in 2001.
People are asked to remove anything that isn't natural — including lights, wire, tinsel, ornaments, nails and tree stands — and to cut trees in half if they're more than 5 feet tall.
