OGDEN, Utah (AP) — Firefighters in Ogden say a family of five safely escaped a Christmas morning fire that damaged their home but spared their presents.

Ogden Deputy Fire Chief Eric Bauman says the blaze occurred around 10 a.m. Friday at a home in the northern part of the city.

The two adults and five children were safely outside by the time firefighters arrived.

Firefighters managed to remove all of the family's Christmas presents while they were fighting the fire.

Bauman says about $40,000 in damage was done, mostly due to smoke.

He says the cause of the fire is unknown and being investigated.

The Standard-Examiner reports (http://bit.ly/1NFPZAB ) the American Red Cross was helping the family find a place to stay.
