WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama and the first lady are sending their Christmas wishes to the nation.
In his weekly radio and video address, Obama says treating one another with love and compassion, caring for the sick, the hungry, the poor and the persecuted is what binds us together, not just as Christians, but Americans of all faiths.
Obama says the holidays are about "coming together as one American family to celebrate our blessings and the values we hold dear."
First lady Michelle Obama, who joined the president in his address, said the theme at the White House this year is "A Timeless Tradition," and she says the decorations in each room reflect some of our country's most cherished pastimes - from saluting the troops and their families to helping children dream big dreams for their future.
The president and his family are spending the holidays in Hawaii, as they do every year.
