RENO, Nev. (AP) — A seismologist says a magnitude-4.4 earthquake in a seismically active area of remote northwestern Nevada wasn't part of a recent swarm of temblors during the last few days closer to Reno.
Tom Rennie, at the Nevada Seismological Lab at the University of Nevada, Reno, says no damage was reported following the quake about 12:30 p.m. Thursday northeast of the ghost town of Vya.
That's about 150 miles north of Reno.
It matched the magnitude of a temblor late Tuesday near Mount Rose, where more than 30 earthquakes have been felt this week between Reno and Lake Tahoe.
Nevada is the third most seismically active state, behind California and Alaska.
A magnitude-6.0 temblor in 2008 that badly damaged Wells in northeast Nevada was the biggest in the state in four decades.
