RENO, Nev. (AP) — Reno police say they have arrested an armed man who had barricaded himself in a downtown motel.

Reno Police Department officers say the standoff began after they responded to a report of a problem between neighbors at Cheryl's Motel and Apartments on Wednesday afternoon.

They say one neighbor, a 67-year-old man, came to the door with a gun but did not point it at officers. Then he shut his door and made threats toward the police.

The Reno SWAT team and crisis negotiators talked to the armed man, who soon came out of his apartment and was taken into custody. He has been charged with harassment and resisting officers with a firearm.

Police say the man is dealing with mental health issues.
