Hampton defeats Louisiana-Monroe 75-64 in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Quinton Chievous and Brian Darden scored 19 points apiece to lead Hampton to a 75-64 win over Louisiana-Monroe in the Continental Tires Las Vegas Classic on Wednesday.

Reginald Johnson added 16 for the Pirates (5-6), who led 42-30 at the half and stretch that to 16 early in the second. They did it by controlling the inside with a 40-33 rebound advantage for a 44-26 difference on points in the paint. Chievous and Dionte Adams both had eight rebounds.

Majok Deng had 16 points for the Warhawks (5-7) with Justin Roberson and Nick Coppola adding 12.

Hampton led by a dozen barely five minutes into the game after a Darden 3-pointer capped a 10-0 in which Darden scored the last eight points. Darden had 13 points at halftime, hitting three 3s.

Chievous had 10 points in the second half, missing only one of six shots.
