CLARKSDALE, Miss. (AP) — Schools officials in Clarksdale think the use of drones should be part of the curriculum.
The Clarksdale Press Register reports (http://bit.ly/1Pkgxrz ) that the Clarksdale Municipal School Board has approved the use of drones for educational purposes.
School board President Rob Tyner says the Clarksdale High School has a Drone Club that operates a drone to film athletic events and other school activities.
Student Tyrone Johnson chairs the club and he hopes to add a new drone now.
Tyner says the Mississippi Department of Education initially advised banning drones from school property. But the board president says state officials changed their position after he explained why the school system wants to use them for educational purposes.
The school district's board discussed the matter at its Thursday meeting and decided to approve the use of drones for educational purposes with the superintendent's consent.
