EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — The New York Giants have re-signed safety Brandon Meriweather.
The team announced that the veteran was signed Wednesday with the status of fellow safety Cooper Taylor uncertain because of a concussion sustained Sunday against Carolina.
Meriweather was released last week when defensive tackle Barry Cofield was signed. He will take the roster spot that opened when fullback Nikita Whitlock was placed on injured reserve with a knee injury.
Meriweather started the first 11 games. He had 53 tackles, two interceptions and seven passed defensed before missing two games with a knee injury
Whitlock did not have a carry this season but was noticed more for filling in on the defensive line in passing situations. The former defensive lineman at Wake Forest had one sack.
