NAIROBI, Kenya (AP) — The CEO of Air France says a suspicious device that caused a flight to be diverted to Kenya was not a bomb. He says the device found in a plane bathroom was made of cardboard, paper and a household timer and "did not contain explosives." He congratulated the crew for making a cool-headed reaction to divert the plane.
BEIRUT (AP) — A Lebanese man who spent nearly 30 years in prison in Israel reportedly has been killed by an Israeli airstrike in Syria. The Lebanese Shiite group Hezbollah (hez-BUH'-lah) says missiles fired by Israeli warplanes destroyed a residential building in a Damascus suburb, killing Samir Kantar and eight others. Israel hasn't confirmed it. Kantar was convicted of carrying out a notorious 1979 attack in Israel. He was released in a controversial prisoner exchange in 2008.
JERUSALEM (AP) — The Israeli military says a Palestinian tried to stab troops in the West Bank city of Hebron, before being shot with rubber bullets. The army says the Palestinian woman was arrested and evacuated for medical care. It's the latest in a series of nearly daily Palestinian attacks on Israelis in the past three months.
LONDON (AP) — British Prime Minister David Cameron says he wants front-line combat roles opened up to women by the end of 2016. British women currently can serve as fighter pilots, sailors and submariners but not in infantry or armored corps units whose primary role is close-quarters combat.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A fiery crash has killed three people in Philadelphia. Police say a speeding car slammed into a parked tractor-trailer carrying herbicide. The car went airborne over the crest of a hill near an intersection before hitting the truck head-on. All three occupants of the car died.
