WASHINGTON (AP) — James Daniel, III, the nation's leading scorer at 29 points per game, had 28 points as he helped Howard get by Maryland Baltimore County 103-93 on Saturday.

Daniel was 10 of 21 from the floor and made all six free throw attempts. Solomon Mangham had 17 points and 13 rebounds; Damon Collins added 22 points, Tyler Stone had 18 points, and Dalique Mingo added 14 and grabbed a career-high 10 rebounds.

Howard (7-5) recovered from a 92-91 double overtime loss to Radford last Saturday.

The Bison had a 42-35 halftime advantage and led throughout most of the second period. However, the Retrievers (4-9) stayed close. They closed to 84-82 with 3:22 left when Jairus Lyles stole the ball and fed Jourdan Grant for a layup. The Bison answered with six straight points to seal the win.

Lyles finished with 27 points and Will Darley added 21 for UMBC.
