BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Idaho's losing legal battle defending the state's ban on same-sex marriage has cost taxpayers roughly $715,000. Gov. C.L. "Butch" Otter and other top elected officials unanimously approved paying $34,000 out of the state's Constitutional Defense Fund today to cover the remaining attorney fees and court costs.
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack is bracing for a showdown with Congress if the government keeps running out of money to fight wildfires. Vilsack says he won't keep raiding funds that are supposed to go elsewhere, and Congress will need to step in with emergency funding if firefighting funds fall short again.
BURLEY, Idaho (AP) — Idaho says it will give partial payment to people who were hired by rural volunteer fire departments to help battle last summer's fire near Kamiah. The Lewiston Tribune reports that State Forester David Groeschl says the Department of Lands will pay people for work performed Aug. 10-17, after other firefighting resources were used up.
BOISE, Idaho (AP) — A school bus collided with a car in Boise this morning, but the three children on the bus were not injured. The bus driver was uninjured, but the woman in the car was taken to a hospital with back pain. Boise School District spokesman Dan Hollar says the bus driver was cited for making a left turn on a red light.
