SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The Utah Department of Transportation says keeping the roads clear during the state's latest snowstorm likely cost more than $1 million.
KSL-TV reports (http://bit.ly/1lPYfVG ) that UDOT spokesman John Gleason estimates that the storm cost about $1.3 million, though he says it will probably be a few days before the exact costs are known.
He says the department usually anticipates spending $1 million for a statewide storm, but this one was a bit larger than usual.
Roadway operations manager Jake Brown says drivers can go through salt very quickly because they use 250 pounds per lane mile. According to Gleason, all UDOT sheds in the area are down to one-third or one-half of their normal salt supplies.
But Gleason says reinforcements are already on the way.
