BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Idaho's wildfire protection budget is about 10 percent bigger for 2016 following one of the state's worst fire seasons on record in 2015. The Idaho Land Board yesterday unanimously voted to spend $920,000 more to prevent small fires from getting big and keeping firefighters available during wildfire seasons. The money still has to be approved by the Idaho Legislature.

TWIN FALLS, Idaho (AP) — People in Twin Falls will now be able to order liquor on holidays. The Times-News reports that the City Council has approved a proposal allowing bars and restaurants to sell liquor by the drink on Memorial and election days and Thanksgiving. Only beer and wine were allowed on that handful of holidays.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — A draft power plan says the Pacific Northwest can meet most of its power needs over the next 20 years with energy efficiency and voluntary reductions of power use during periods of peak demand. The Northwest Power and Conservation Council forecasts Pacific Northwest electricity demand for the next 20 years. It assigns power resources to meet that demand.

BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) — A proposed silver and copper mine beneath northwestern Montana's Cabinet Mountains Wilderness has cleared a major hurdle with the completion of an environmental study in the works for a decade. A spokesman with the Montana Department of Environmental Quality says a final decision on the Montanore mine near the Idaho border could come by late January.
