NEW YORK (AP) — Free agent second baseman Rafael Toribio has been suspended for 25 games under baseball's minor league drug program.

The specifics of the violation were not announced by the commissioner's office Tuesday, but the only specified 25-game penalty in the minor league program is for unauthorized use or possession of a syringe.

Toribio, 19, hit .299 with 19 steals in 52 games this year for Red Sox 2 of the Dominican Summer League. His suspension will start when he signs with another major league organization.

There have been 103 suspensions this year under the minor league program.
