VERO BEACH, Fla. (AP) — A man who authorities say crashed his car into a Florida jail in order to visit some friends apparently got what he wanted.
Indian River County Sheriff's Office spokesman Eric Flowers is quoted by news media outlets as saying that 24-year-old Patrick Rempe rammed the jail's front doors early Tuesday morning, nearly hitting a deputy. He says Rempe then attempted to climb a fence and became entangled in razor wire.
Flowers says Rempe had taken the designer drug flakka, a synthetic drug known to cause hallucinations, paranoia and behavioral changes.
Rempe told deputies he just wanted to visit friends who were in the jail. In a way, he got his wish: He was booked and jailed on multiple charges.
Jail records didn't list an attorney.
