LAS VEGAS (AP) — The death of a 45-year-old man whose body was found after a Las Vegas house was set ablaze has been ruled a homicide. The Las Vegas Sun reports the Clark County Coroner's Office determined that Mario Jimenez died of inhalation injuries in the Nov. 16 fire. Crews arrived to find a man with burn and stab wounds and two women who had been bound with plastic straps. All three were taken to the hospital in critical condition. Jimenez was found dead inside the home. The case is still being investigated.
RENO, Nev. (AP) — Officials are about to mark the start of construction on a new Washoe County medical examiner's office in Reno. A county spokesman says a ceremony will be held tomorrow at the site on East 9th Street across from the Washoe County complex near Interstate 80. The $12 million building will update and provide more space for services provided Washoe County and 19 other Nevada counties and California counties.
RENO, Nev. (AP) — Organizers of the Burning Man counter-culture celebration are challenging the enforcement of a Nevada state tax that they say could cost them nearly $3 million. The Reno Gazette-Journal reports Burning Man officials argue the tax shouldn't apply to them because they are not a provider of live entertainment.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Local transportation leaders are floating a 30-year-plan that could cost more than $12 billion involving everything from wider sidewalks to extra monorail stops and planning for a light rail route linking the airport to downtown. What the price tag doesn't include is the cost to build and maintain the light rail system. That could amount to $2.1 billion to $12.5 billion depending whether the track is below, at or above ground.
