DELAND, Fla. (AP) — Former Major League Baseball star Darryl Strawberry has opened his second rehabilitation center to treat people with drug addictions.

The new Darryl Strawberry Recovery Center outside DeLand will open in January, offering a 28-day residential treatment program.

The Daytona Beach News-Journal reports (http://bit.ly/1Z5dLuV ) that at a grand opening ceremony Friday, Strawberry said he knows treatment can work. He says recovery depends on a patient's ability to come out of denial about an addiction — something he said he struggled with for a long time.

During his 17-year career, Strawberry played for the New York Mets, the Los Angeles Dodgers, the San Francisco Giants and the New York Yankees, but for many years he also was known for his struggles with drugs.

Strawberry's first rehab center opened two years ago in St. Cloud.
