LE BOURGET, France (AP) — Talks on a pact to fight global warming appear to be making progress. Some negotiators say a deal is close. Representatives from more than 190 countries are in Paris, trying to reach an agreement for all countries to reduce man-made emissions of greenhouse gases and help the poorest adapt to rising seas, fiercer weather and other impacts of global warming.
FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — Evidence obtained by The Associated Press shows that four of the nine people killed in a melee between rival biker gangs outside a Texas restaurant in May were struck by the same caliber of rifle fired by Waco police. The 223-caliber rifle was the only type of weapon fired by police that day. It's not clear whether any bikers had similar guns.
COACHELLA, Calif. (AP) — The FBI is assisting local law enforcement in determining what caused a fire at a Southern California mosque. The fire at the Islamic Center of Palm Springs today was reported to Riverside County authorities as a possible arson. The blaze was contained to the small building's front lobby, and no one was injured. The mosque was hit by gunfire in 2014.
MCFARLAND, Calif. (AP) — An investigation is underway into the crash of a medical helicopter in central California. Officials say the SkyLife air ambulance went down amid heavy rain and fog last night in a remote field in the San Joaquin (san wah-KEEN') Valley. The pilot, a nurse, a paramedic and a patient were killed. The Bell 407 helicopter was headed to Bakersfield from Porterville.
HIGHLAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — Authorities say three suburban Detroit teachers got sick after eating marijuana-laced brownies put out in a school lounge. Schools officials say they're working with law enforcement to determine who brought the brownies to the elementary school in Highland Township. It's not known if they were put out intentionally or brought by mistake.
