SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A federal judge has dismissed an excessive force lawsuit brought by the family of a Utah doctor who killed himself a day after his 2009 arrest in a multistate artifact looting investigation. The judge said James Redd's family didn't prove that Bureau of Land Management agents violated Redd's constitutional rights.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The former police chief of the tiny Utah town of Myton has been acquitted of stalking charges. A jury found 45-year-old Thomas Butterfield not guilty yesterday. He was charged with three misdemeanors after a woman said he began stalking her after responding to her report of a stolen car. Butterfield was fired on Oct. 31.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — New U.S. Census data shows that Utah's poverty rate continued to drop from its recession-era highs last year, but the recovering economy has still left some behind. University of Utah research economist Pam Perlich says even though the median income in the state is rising, the portion of people living in poverty is still above where it was in 2007.
SYRACUSE, Utah (AP) — A 16-year-old boy has died after a car hit him while he was crossing the street in Syracuse yesterday. Police say there's no immediate sign that the 42-year-old woman driving the Neon was impaired. She says the driver is cooperating with the investigation.
