COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Ohio State coach Urban Meyer has suspended defensive lineman Adolphus Washington from the Fiesta Bowl after he was cited by police this week for solicitation.

Columbus police cited Washington Wednesday night with a first-degree misdemeanor.

Washington issued an apology Thursday through the university to his team, family and friends. He says he's disappointed in himself and will learn from his mistake.

Washington is a senior who has four sacks and 49 tackles in 12 games this season.

Ohio State plays Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl on Jan. 1.
