LAS VEGAS (AP) — Police say a man appears to have been shot dead near an access road in northwest Las Vegas next to U.S. route 95.

Las Vegas police said they responded Wednesday morning to a call that a dead body had been found in the area of U.S. route 95 and Lone Mountain Road.

Police say their preliminary investigation indicates the man was shot where he was found. The agency says the Clark County Coroner's office would release the man's name.

Authorities say they don't know the motive for the shooting and have not identified a suspect or suspect.

The number of homicide investigations in Las Vegas so far this year is now 123.
