LAUSANNE, Switzerland (AP) — FIFA presidential hopeful Musa Bility could be declared an official candidate by sport's highest court this month despite failing an integrity check.
The Court of Arbitration for Sport says soccer's governing body FIFA agreed a fast-track case for Bility to appeal against his candidacy being rejected.
CAS says its hearing "could take place before Christmas" and a verdict given by the end of the year.
FIFA's election monitoring panel ruled the Liberia football federation president ineligible last month.
No reason was publicly given, though Bility said a previous criminal allegation against him was dismissed by a Liberian court.
CAS says Bility wants to be allowed to campaign pending the sports court's verdict.
Bility was always regarded as a long-shot outsider in the Feb. 26 election, which currently has five candidates.
