PARIS (AP) — A French police official says a text message to a woman announcing her son's death in the Nov. 13 attacks on Paris led authorities to identify the third person who attacked the Bataclan concert hall. The official says the mother provided a DNA sample last week, allowing authorities to identify French citizen Foued Mohamed-Aggad as the third dead attacker in the Bataclan. One of the woman's other sons, who has returned from Syria, faces terrorism-related charges.

WASHINGTON (AP) — A new poll suggests that a majority of Republicans see a high risk that refugees from Syria will commit acts of religious and political violence in the U.S. The AP-GfK survey finds widespread opposition to immigration from the Middle East, with 54 percent of Americans saying the U.S. takes in too many people from the volatile region. Among Republicans, about three-quarters of those surveyed hold that view. The poll was conducted before Donald Trump proposed blocking Muslims from entering the U.S.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — People in the Northwest face another messy morning commute as rain and wind that have caused flooding and landslides continues to pound the region. A second barrage of heavy rains yesterday hit the Portland area and western Washington, pushing many area creeks and rivers to flood stage. Meteorologist Andy Haner of the National Weather Service in Seattle says every major river in western Washington is either already at or will rise to at least a minor flood stage over the next few days.

DOVER, Del. (AP) — A white police officer in Delaware seen on video kicking a black suspect in the head and breaking his jaw has been acquitted of assault. A jury in Kent County Superior Court deliberated for about 16 hours over three days before acquitting Dover police Cpl. Thomas Webster IV of felony assault and misdemeanor assault yesterday. Webster testified that he didn't intend to kick Lateef Dickerson in the head in the August 2013 encounter and was instead aiming for his upper body.

NEW YORK (AP) — Is the lifespan for Americans leveling off? Government figures show that a child born last year can expect to live 78 years and 9½ months. That's the same prediction made for the previous two years. It's not clear why life expectancy has been flat lately, but experts believe suicides and fatal drug overdoses probably are playing a role.
