PHILADELPHIA (AP) — At least two Philadelphia high school students have been taken into custody after police say they attacked a teacher in a classroom.

School District spokesman Fernando Gallard tells The Philadelphia Inquirer (http://bit.ly/1OQRo7M) the attack happened at about 10 a.m. Monday, when three students entered a classroom at George Washington High School looking for a cellphone held by another student.

Gallard says the students assaulted the teacher as they were trying to get the cellphone back. The teacher suffered facial injuries and was taken to a hospital.

Gallard says the district is working with police to make sure the students receive the "full consequences."

The teens are facing aggravated assault charges.

The district announced Tuesday that the school's principal has been removed and "temporarily reassigned."
