LEWISTON, Idaho (AP) — Construction crews have begun work on a $160 million upgrade at a paper mill in Lewiston.
Workers poured a massive foundation for a new storage tank on Friday. The 8-foot-thick foundation will sit beneath a 110-foot-tall tank capable of holding 1,000 tons of high-density pulp.
The concrete was delivered by 10 trucks per hour for about 17 hours. It will take 56 days to cure.
Clearwater Paper spokesman Matt Van Vleet tells the Lewiston Tribune (http://bit.ly/1HNoMwv ) that the upgrade will make the pulp mill run more efficiently and will minimize downtime.
The plant employs 1,370 people.
