LIMESTONE, Tenn. (AP) — The Tennessee Department of Health and federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services have ordered the removal of all government-insured patients from a nursing home near Johnson City, based on findings of multiple health care deficiencies.
The Johnson City Press (http://bit.ly/1NuTgnj ) reports the first patients were transferred from the John M. Reed Nursing Home to other facilities Wednesday after being decertified by CMS.
The decertification followed three extensive state Health Department inspections in October and early November after four complaints were lodged with the state.
Jim Wheeler, an attorney for the nonprofit nursing home, says the home was in the process of terminating changing management contractors when it learned of the decertification.
Wheeler says all except for about 12 private-pay residents of the 66-bed facility will be transferred.
