KAMPALA, Uganda (AP) — Amid security concerns due to violence between Christians and Muslims, Pope Francis has arrived in Central African Republic, the final stop on his first African trip. He plans to venture into the capital's Muslim enclave to meet with community leaders and the displaced. The violence has displaced nearly 1 million people. He says the purpose of his visit is to be a "pilgrim of peace, an apostle of hope."
PARIS (AP) — Negotiators and world leaders hope to reach an accord to slow the effects of climate change during a two-week meeting that starts tomorrow in Paris, which remains under a state of emergency following the deadly attacks. President Barack Obama leaves Washington today for the much-anticipated U.N. climate conference. Environmental activists lined up shoes on Paris streets to represent the people barred from protesting because of the heavy security.
NEW FLORENCE, Pa. (AP) — A six-hour manhunt east of Pittsburgh has resulted in the arrest of a man in the shooting death of a police officer answering a domestic call. State police say Ray Shetler Jr. was captured early this morning. Police believe Shetler shot St. Clair Township Officer Lloyd Reed last night. They say Shetler is being treated for a gunshot wound to the right shoulder and will then be taken in for questioning.
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) — Planned Parenthood says witnesses to the clinic shooting in Colorado characterized the gunman as motivated by his opposition to abortion. Officially, police have not disclosed a motive for Friday's attack that killed three people, including a police officer. An anonymous official says suspect Robert Lewis Dear said "no more baby parts" after his arrest.
ANKARA, Turkey (AP) — The body of a Russian pilot killed when his warplane was shot down by Turkey will be returned home. Turkey's prime minister says Turkey has taken delivery of the body and that the local Orthodox church in Hatay performed religious rites. Russian President Vladimir Putin is calling for sanctions against Turkey.
