CHICAGO (AP) — Hundreds of activists chanting "16 shots!" have been stopping traffic as a march takes place in Chicago's Magnificent Mile shopping district. The demonstration to protest a fatal shooting by police last year has so far been peaceful. It's the latest demonstration in the city since Tuesday, when officials released a video that shows 17-year-old Laquan McDonald being shot 16 times and prosecutors charged Officer Jason Van Dyke with first-degree murder.
CHICAGO (AP) — Chicago's police superintendent says the shooting death of a 9-year-old boy on the city's South Side earlier this month was part of a dispute between gangs. And he's vowing to wipe out those gangs. Tyshawn Lee was killed in what police say was a targeted shooting in an alley. Police say it was because of his father's gang connections.
BRUSSELS (AP) — A man who drove Paris attacks suspect Salah Abdeslam through Brussels after the massacres is being kept in custody for at least a month. Belgium's federal prosecutor's office says a court has approved the continued detention of the man. His lawyer insists he's innocent -- saying that driving a fugitive through Brussels doesn't make you part of a terrorist group.
WASHINGTON (AP) — The Secret Service says a man who jumped the White House fence draped in an American flag on Thanksgiving has been charged. A spokesman says 22-year-old Joseph Caputo of Stamford, Connecticut, scaled the north fence yesterday afternoon and gained access to the north grounds, but was immediately arrested. He was charged with unlawful entry. The intrusion prompted a lockdown as the first family celebrated Thanksgiving.
NEW YORK (AP) — Stocks have finished a holiday-shortened trading day mostly higher. But energy companies fell along with the price of oil. The Dow industrials lost 14 points. The S&P 500 edged up a point, while the Nasdaq composite rose 11 points.
