Salt Lake City, Utah (July 21, 2006) - The Utah Jazz introduced Derek Fisher to the local media today at the Zions Bank Basketball Center. Fisher was acquired in a trade with Golden State on July 12, 2006 in exchange for Devin Brown, Keith McLeod and Andre Owens.
"We feel very fortunate to add Derek Fisher to our roster," said Kevin O'Connor, Sr. Vice President of Basketball Operations. "He has proven to be an outstanding competitor throughout his career, which will prove beneficial to the Jazz. His presence on the floor and in our locker room will be a tremendous asset to our team."
Fisher played in 82 games (36 starts) last season with the Golden State Warriors. He averaged a career high 13.3 points and a career high 1.52 steals while averaging 4.3 assists and 2.2 rebounds in 31.6 minutes per game.
Originally drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers in the first round of the 1996 NBA Draft (24th pick overall), Fisher spent the first eight seasons of his career with the Los Angles Lakers. In 10 NBA seasons, Fisher has played in 700 career games averaging 8.6 points, 3.2 assists and 2.2 rebounds in 25.3 minutes. He earned a career high 29 points against the Los Angeles Lakers on January 15, 2005 and has posted a career high 13 assists twice, against Minnesota on March 16, 2006 and against Denver on January 14, 1998.
