SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- The Utah Jazz signed center Jarron Collins on Thursday.

The club had announced last week that agreement had been reached.

Terms were not disclosed, but The Salt Lake Tribune said it had learned that Collins, an unrestricted free agent, signed a three-year contract worth just over $7 million. He earned $1.7 million last season, it said.

Kevin O'Connor, vice president of basketball operations, called Collins "a true competitor who is passionate about basketball. He's a professional, on and off the court."

Collins was a second-round draft pick in the 2001 draft.

He has averaged 5.6 points and 3.9 rebounds in 302 regular-season games with the Jazz, including 5.3 points and 4.2 rebounds in 21.9 minutes per game last season.

Collins promised to take leadership role with the Jazz.

"I will do my part," he said. "I (will) do the things that need to be done to win games, whether it's (taking) an elbow from Shaq or diving out of bounds for a loose ball."
