SALT LAKE CITY — A business caught fire near 1500 Main Street Wednesday, causing the evacuation of homes and businesses and spurred the closure of Main Street, officials said.
People have evacuated from businesses and homes directly southeast of the fire, and the road is closed between about 1300 South and 1600 South. People should avoid the area, according to the Salt Lake City Fire Department.
The two-alarm fire was reported around noon. Firefighters reportedly battled the blaze in defensive mode beginning around 12:30 p.m.
Officials didn't immediately release the cause of the fire, the extent of the damage or the name of the business directly affected.
More information will be posted as it becomes available.
