SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) — Federal officials say Agape Cottages, a chain of ten small Orange County assisted living homes, must pay more than $195,000 in back wages and overtime for 17 of its workers.
The U.S. Department of Labor announced Monday that labor law violations were found at six of the homes, located in Placentia, Fullerton and Santa Ana.
The facilities house six elderly residents each, along with live-in caregivers. Many of the clients suffer from Alzheimer's disease and dementia.
The Orange County Register reports (http://bit.ly/1WPj7Ye) the company misclassified its employees, denying them some legal rights.
A lawyer for Agape Cottages Care Partners says the company reached the settlement voluntarily and has accepted the result.
