HEBER CITY — A Heber City man fired several shots at his wife last week in an attempt to kill her and in the process hit a neighbor's home with a woman and 6-year-old girl inside, according to charges filed Monday.
Shane Christopher Kendall, 36, allegedly fired at least two shots that hit the car his wife was in and at least three that penetrated the garage door of a home across the street. He was charged Monday with second-degree felony attempted murder and two counts of third-degree felony domestic violence in the presence of a child.
Kendall's wife was not hit in the gunfire Friday evening, charges state. The woman was backing up the vehicle after having an argument with Kendall when he allegedly opened fire in her direction. She also crashed into another vehicle while backing the car away from him, according to court documents.
Kendall then allegedly put a gun to his own head. He later went inside and placed that gun and another one he had with him in a cabinet, police said. He and his wife were both searched after police arrived, and he surrendered without incident, according to charging documents. He allegedly told the arresting officer he had been drinking.

Nobody in the home across the street was injured. Two of Kendall's children were in the front room of his home during the alleged attack. They were also not injured.
Kendall's wife told police he punched her in the face before the shooting. Another witness reported they heard "a male tell a female … 'I am warning you, you better hide now,'" charging documents say.

Bullet entry holes were found on the driver's side of the vehicle's front bumper and the garage door of the neighbor's home, court documents say. The charges don't specify what caused the original argument.
Kendall is additionally charged in last week's incident with carrying a dangerous weapon under the influence of alcohol, a class B misdemeanor, and intoxication, a class C misdemeanor. His next court hearing is scheduled for Nov. 18. He is currently in the Wasatch County Jail.
History
Utah court records show Kendall filed for divorce from a woman in December, but the case was dismissed in July. The same woman filed for a protective order against him Monday.
Kendall pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor lewdness charge in 2005. He has also been charged with misdemeanor traffic offenses, including drinking alcohol or possessing an open container of alcohol while driving, according to court records.
