PROVO — A woman pushing a shopping cart with a child inside was hit by an impaired driver in a parking lot Tuesday, police said.
A video of the incident was released Wednesday by the Provo Police Department. Investigators said several people were in the crosswalk in front of Sam's Club, located at 1313 South University Avenue, when a white Jeep Cherokee drove into the area at a high rate of speed and crashed into the woman at about 5:20 p.m.
"Miraculously, the driver did not hit the cart containing the child," a post on the Provo Police Department's Facebook page reads. "After hitting the victim, the driver reportedly got out of his vehicle to inspect for damage and then attempted to leave the scene. Witnesses prevented the driver from leaving until police arrived."
The 61-year-old woman was transported to the hospital. She was treated for injuries, including a separated shoulder, hip bruising and severe neck pain, according to police.
Carl Anderson, 66, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, operating a vehicle without insurance and revoked registration.

Video of Alleged DUI Driver Striking Pedestrian in Front of Provo StoreYesterday at 5:20 PM our dispatch received a report that a female pedestrian had been struck by a White Jeep Cherokee in front of Sam's Club at 1313 South University Avenue. According to witnesses on scene, the driver of the Jeep Cherokee drove into the crosswalk in front of Sam's Club at a high rate of speed. There were several pedestrians in the crosswalk at this time, and the driver struck a female who was pushing a cart with a child. Miraculously, the driver did not hit the cart containing the child. After hitting the victim, the driver reportedly got out of his vehicle to inspect for damage, and then attempted to leave the scene. Witnesses prevented the driver from leaving until police arrived.After arriving, officers conducted an investigation and arrested the driver, 66 year old Carl Anderson, for DUI (with serious bodily injury), operating a vehicle without insurance, and revoked registration. The pedestrian, a 61 year old female, was transported to the hospital where it was determined she suffered a separated shoulder, severe neck sprain, hip bruising, and other minor bruising and scratches.
