WASHINGTON (AP) — The change back to standard time in most parts of the United States shifts one hour of daylight to the morning from the evening.

If you're planning ahead, mark the calendar for springing forward: Daylight saving time returns at 2 a.m. local time on March 13.

The fall change meant an extra hour of sleep this weekend for many in the country. But residents of Hawaii, most of Arizona and some U.S. territories didn't have to change their clocks; daylight saving time is not observed in those places.

Public safety officials say it's a good time to put a new battery in the smoke alarm, no matter where you live.
