SALT LAKE CITY — The largest public survey ever in Utah is complete. The two-year project allowed approximately 53,000 Utahns' voices to be heard and express their opinions on how to keep Utah a wonderful place to live years into the future.

Envision Utah, The agency that conducted the survey, has been around for 20 years. It is focused on seeing what people want to keep Utah great.

In the most recent survey, more than 400 experts crunched the data, finding out it all boils down to a few things Utahns want to see improved the most.

Population growth

The population of the state of Utah is reaching 3 million, but down the road in 2050, that number is expected to balloon by another 2.5 million. Planning ahead for that boom will be key, according to Envision Utah.

Here are some of the items those surveyed want to see focused on, according to Robert Grow, president and CEO of Envision Utah:

  • Building better, safer communities.
  • Improving air quality and focusing on water conservation, including the building of better infrastructure.
  • Making best use of the land through agriculture and using public lands intelligently.
  • Improving the state's education programs.

"The opportunity for every Utahn, every child to succeed with a great education system," is important, according to Grow.

And 53,000 Utahns said those are the cornerstones for building a better, happier, healthier and more convenient place to life.

Now that they have the research compiled, Envision Utah said it's now up to lawmakers and everyone who lives in the state to use it to make a difference and create an improved Utah.
