DACULA, Ga. (AP) — A principal says a student has died after deliberately injuring herself in a suburban Atlanta high school gym.

Local news media report that Dacula High School principal Bryan Long confirmed in a letter that the fatal incident occurred Wednesday. The unidentified student died after being treated by emergency responders and taken to the hospital.

Gwinnett County school district spokeswoman Sloan Roach says the girl was the only student in the gym at the time. Long's letter provided no details about how the student injured herself.

All after school activities were canceled.

A gathering for prayers and moment of silence is scheduled for 6:45 a.m. Thursday. Long says additional counselors are expected to be at the school the same day.
