FARMINGDALE, N.Y. (AP) — A tentative agreement has averted a threatened strike by employees of a Long Island school bus company.
Newsday (http://nwsdy.li/1klmtGf ) reports officials at Ronkonkoma-based Baumann & Sons Buses Inc. and its affiliate, Acme Buses, and union leadership announced the new agreement late Monday.
Teamsters Local 1205 president Timothy Lynch said the deal provides better terms and conditions while addressing the legitimate needs of the business
On Saturday, bus company employees had voted by secret ballot to authorize the strike after rejecting the companies' offer.
The strike would have affected about 35 school districts and the 15,000 children Baumann and Acme transport daily.
Union members will vote on the new accord by the end of the week.
