SALT LAKE CITY — A woman died Sunday night after being struck by two cars while crossing the street at the intersection of 700 South and 700 East, police said.

Two vehicles, going southbound, struck and killed the woman at approximately 8:30 p.m., according to Salt Lake police detective Cody Lougy.

Lougy described the victim as an elderly female who was walking alone. There is no crosswalk at the intersection, Lougy said.

"We believe maybe poor visiblity in this area due to rain and darkness at this intersection may have contributed to this accident, although that's still under investigation," Lougy said.

He said police expect the intersection will be shut down in both directions until midnight.

Investigators are still investigating whether speed was a factor, according to Lougy, but investigators don't believe alcohol or drugs were a factor.

Lougy said both drivers stopped at the scene.
