ST. GEORGE — A man who was recklessly driving was killed in a head-on collision on Bluff Street Thursday morning, police said.
Around 8:30 a.m., police received several calls of a reckless driver traveling southbound on state Route 18 known locally as Bluff Street, according to St. George police. Witnesses reported seeing a man driving a small blue pickup truck at a high rate of speed and swerving around other vehicles. The pickup truck sideswiped a passenger vehicle in the Ledges area and continued driving southbound, police said.
The blue truck eventually collided head-on with a full sized white pickup truck on Bluff Street about five miles north of the interchange with I-15, police said. The male driver of the blue pickup truck was killed in the collision and the driver of the white truck was transported to Dixie Regional Medical Center with minor injuries.
One lane on southbound Bluff Street was closed during the cleanup of the accident, but both northbound lanes remained open.
St. George police, the Utah Highway Patrol, Washington County Sheriff's Office and the St. George Fire Department all responded to the crash and the investigation is ongoing.
"At this time, it is unknown why the driver of the pickup was driving so recklessly," St. George police said.
The man has not yet been identified, pending notification of family. More information will be posted as it becomes available.
