CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Nevada will triple the size of a state park after acquiring thousands of acres of undeveloped land nearby.
The Elko Daily Free Press reports (http://bit.ly/1LgzSpA ) that the Nevada Division of State Lands now owns 2,980 acres in eastern Nevada surrounding Cave Lake State Park near Ely. The land was previously controlled by the U.S. Forest Service.
Cave Lake offers camping, hiking and fishing. Nevada Division of State Parks Administrator Eric Johnson says the new land will allow the state to add more recreational trails.
Nevada has proposed two other land acquisitions, both involving tracts administered by the Bureau of Land Management. That land would be added to Steptoe Wildlife Management Area and Ward Charcoal Ovens State Park in White Pine County.
