EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — Health officials have confirmed that a bat found dead on the Lane Community College campus in Eugene had rabies.
It is the third time in a month that a bat with rabies has been found between south Eugene and Creswell.
A bat was flying erratically Sept. 24 when it scratched a woman walking on campus. The woman reported the incident and has been receiving an antibiotic. A bat found dead after the woman was scratched was sent in for testing.
Rabies is a viral disease that affects the nervous system. The virus is carried in the saliva of an infected animal.
