STOCKHOLM (AP) — The Nobel Prize in chemistry has been awarded to three scientists. American Paul Modrich, U.S.-Turkish scientist Aziz Sancar and Sweden's Tomas Lindahl are being recognized by Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences for their work on DNA repair. The Academy says work by the three "has provided fundamental knowledge of how a living cell functions." Their findings have been used for the development of new cancer treatments, among other things.

GEORGETOWN, S.C. (AP) — Residents along South Carolina's coast are getting ready for a second round of flooding as rivers swollen from days of devastating rains make their way toward the Atlantic. The Waccamaw River is expected to crest at 5 feet above flood stage in Conway, South Carolina tomorrow. Meanwhile, crews are working to stabilize a damaged dam in Richland County. Emergency officials last night issued a voluntary evacuation for people living a-half-mile away from Beaver Dam.

CHISINAU, Moldova (AP) — An Associated Press investigation has revealed a thriving black market in nuclear materials in Eastern Europe, and the intended customers are Middle Eastern extremist groups. Files say authorities working with the FBI have interrupted four attempts by gangs shopping radioactive material in Moldova. The most serious case came in 2011, when a man expressing hatred for the U.S. tried to sell bomb-grade uranium to a Sudanese buyer.

ROME (AP) — The Catholic Church in a region in northern Italy has taken action against a priest who said pedophilia in the church was caused by children seeking the affection of priests. The archdiocese of Trento says it's removed the Rev. Gino Flaim from all pastoral work and has forbidden him from preaching. Flaim gave an interview last night in which he said, "Unfortunately, there are children who seek out affection because they don't get any at home." Flaim said he has worked with schools and understands children.

BRUSSELS (AP) — Anheuser-Busch InBev is sweetening its offer for SABMiller to more than $104 billion. This, after SAB Miller quickly shot down a cash offer of $64.35 per share on Monday. Beer makers are being pushed into consolidation by eroding market share and competition, especially from trendy craft beers. In the event of a deal, the sheer size of the combined company would likely push regulators to require the sale of some brands to ensure fair competition. That could include Miller in the United States.
