LAS VEGAS (AP) — Police in Las Vegas have found a car they believe was involved in the hit-and-run of a 5-year-old girl but have yet to locate the suspected driver.
KSNV-TV reported (http://bit.ly/1Gr0lic) Sunday that police found an abandoned Chevrolet Aveo in a Wal-Mart parking lot at Cheyenne Avenue and Rainbow Boulevard.
According to witnesses, an Asian or Hispanic woman was driving the car Friday afternoon when it hit the girl as she was crossing the street.
Police say the driver allegedly slowed down and said "I'm sorry" before driving off.
The girl was hospitalized with a substantial leg injury.
The driver could receive an automatic two-year prison sentence under a new state law.
Police say it's the first hit-and-run incident they've handled since the law took effect late last week.
