SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Prosecutors say a Salt Lake City man told police that he shot three people staying at his house, including a baby, because they wouldn't move out. Prosecutors charged 32-year-old Alexander Hung Tran with three counts of aggravated murder today. Police say Tran acknowledged the shootings when officers found him with a gun on Sept. 18. No attorney was immediately listed for Tran.
WASHINGTON (AP) — The White House says "significant concerns" have been raised by reports that Secret Service employees accessed the unsuccessful job application of Utah Congressman Jason Chaffetz, who is investigating agency scandals. Spokesman Josh Earnest says, though, that President Barack Obama is confident the "appropriate steps" will be taken to hold accountable those who didn't follow proper procedures.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The U.S. Labor Department says they've talked to children who say they were assigned to harvest pecans on a ranch linked to imprisoned polygamist leader Warren Jeffs. The Salt Lake Tribune reports federal labor authorities suspect Paragon Contractors, located on FLDS land, used children and unpaid labor to pick pecans on the Southern Utah Pecan Ranch.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Police say new DNA tests have identified the body of a woman found at a central Utah reservoir nearly 40 years ago. The Juab County Sheriff's Office identified the woman as Marilee Bruszer of Long Beach, California, who was 33 when she vanished in 1978. Long Beach Police there have reopened the investigation into her death.
