VIRGINIA CITY, Nev. (AP) — A section of State Route 342 south of Gold Hill will be temporarily closed while a construction project by Comstock Mining Inc. finishes realigning the road.
Beginning Sept. 29 through Nov. 12 traffic will be detoured to State Route 341. The detour route runs parallel to State Route 342 and provides access between U.S. 50 and Virginia City.
The road closure is part of the project to complete the realignment of State Route 342 around the historic Silver Hills mine shaft, which has a history of collapses. In February, the Nevada Department of Transportation closed a portion of State Route 342 after heavy rains and roadway cracking and sinking as a precaution.
