WEST VALLEY CITY — Two people were arrested and two more remained at large after a car chase Thursday evening, and police say it's possible the same people were involved in a robbery earlier in the day.

The chase began around 5 p.m. near 3200 West and 3650 South, said West Valley Police Lt. Dalan Taylor. An officer spotted a stolen vehicle and attempted to pull it over, but the driver sped away, leading to the pursuit.

The fleeing vehicle crashed at 4050 South, Taylor said, hitting a fence and coming to rest in a front yard. Four people got out of the vehicle and fled on foot.

West Valley police set up a containment in the area and arrested two juveniles they say were in the car. Nearby residents were told to call 911 if they spotted anyone in their backyards.

The apprehended juveniles will be investigated for possession of a stolen vehicle and fleeing police on foot. Police were still searching for the others Friday morning. Nobody was injured in the chase, Taylor said.

"We're lucky there were no pedestrians out and also that the vehicle stopped on the lawn and didn't travel any further," he said.

The stolen vehicle was also seen in the area Thursday afternoon shortly after an armed robbery at Cyprus Credit Union, 3432 W. 3500 South. It's possible that the occupants of the vehicle were associated in some way with the robbery, according to Taylor.

"There was a possibility that they could be tied together," Taylor said.

West Valley police say a man walked into the credit union around 1:45 p.m., showed a handgun to a teller and demanded money. He received cash and fled the building on foot going north, according to investigators.

The man is described as Hispanic, roughly 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighing about 170 pounds, and in his late teens or early 20s. He was wearing a red button-up shirt with long sleeves and a Cincinnati Reds baseball cap.

Anyone with information about either case is asked to call West Valley police at 801-840-4000.
