LAS VEGAS (AP) — Electric Daisy Carnival organizers are encouraging fans to buy their 2016 festival tickets before a 9 percent tax takes effect Oct. 1.
Officials with Insomniac that presents the three-day annual dance music festival bringing more than 130,000 people nightly to the Las Vegas Motor Speedway every June say they're selling tickets nearly three months early for festival-goers to bypass the tax.
Insomniac's founder Pasquale Rotella has criticized Nevada's amended Live Entertainment Tax calling it "extremely detrimental" for an industry that operates on razor-thin profit margins.
The tax on live entertainment had not applied to outdoor music festivals until legislators voted for changes earlier this year.
Electric Daisy Carnival returns June 17-19 with three-day tickets starting at $335 and later $355. After Oct. 1, the price increases to $386.95.
